Paddle Sport Instructor Award - Swanage, Dorset

Learn, train, qualify, enjoy

What is it? 

The Paddlesport Instructor Award is designed for instructors running taster or starter sessions within the safety management systems of clubs/centres or other organisations in ‘Very Sheltered Water’ environments and in stable craft deemed suitable for a first time experience.

The Qualification

The qualification will support the instructor with practical skills such as kitting up a group and getting afloat, initial familiarisation activities, games and activities to support learning and how to use mini journeys to support learning, inspire adventure and exploration. 


Duration

The course is a minimum of two days and includes at least 15 hours teaching/learning contact time.

About the Award

The Paddle Sport Instructor Award has replaced Level 1 Coach. This award gives you the foundation of paddlesport coaching and is generally the first award you will need to be able teach paddlesports

Before you start...

Before attending the Paddlesport Instructor course candidates are expected to have developed personal paddling and rescue competence

- You will need to register for the course with British Canoeing at least 2 weeks before the start of the course.

    Paddle Sports Instructor


    Paddle Sports Instructor training is a fantastic opportunity to develop skills, confidence and take on board new information. You'll need some prior experience.

    • Prior Experience
      • Prior to attending the Paddle Sport Instructor course candidates are expected to have developed personal paddling and rescue competence in their preferred craft through in-house or independent training, practice and coaching. 
      • Candidates choose to paddle ONE type of craft for the personal paddling and rescue skills assessment; kayak, open canoe, sit-on-top kayak, OR SUP. 
      • These skills are assessed during the course (but not trained).

      • Full Home Nation Association Membership
      • Registration
      • British Canoeing Foundation Safety and Rescue Training
      • Personal Paddling and Rescue Competence (see below)
      • 14 years of age, or older.
